Staining Wood PLA
After printing in Hatchbox wood PLA, I used a “stain marker” to stain the planter (my particular stain marker is a dark walnut stain made by Rust-Oleum). Apply the stain marker in slow, uniform strokes (all strokes in the same direction and that direction should follow the layer lines). By slightly overlapping the strokes, it simulates wood grain and gives the wood a more realistic look. I do NOT sand the wood before staining, because in this particular application I think the layer lines enhance the wood look.
Note, the stain marker I used is 2-in-1 stain + finish (and it’s instant dry)… so it doesn’t rub off and can get wet. If you use a different kind of stain, you may want to finish it with a protective coat so the stain doesn’t rub onto your skin.
