Red and Blue Chair by Gerrit Rietveld (Classic and Revisited)This classic masterpiece of design was created in Holland in 1918 by Gerrit Rietveld. It was one of the first examples of modern design in history.Originally composed by beech wood pieces, in 1920, thanks to the influence of the Dutch Neoplasticism Movement called De Stijl, it was re-designed with thinner wood and painted with the iconic colours of the famous Schrder house which also was inspired by Piet Mondrian and Neoplasticism. The aim was to make the structure disappear against a black wall, and underline the rest of the chair, the seat and the back.
