Common catfish, or European catfish (Latin Silurus glanis) is a large freshwater scaly fish of the catfish family (Siluridae). Body length up to 5 m, weight up to 400 kg (according to historical data). L.P. Sabaneev cites Kessler’s information about the capture of soms weighing more than 300 kg in the XIX century, in the Dniester and Oder. Officially registered a catfish weighing 306 kg, a length of more than 3 m and an age of about 80 years. Now catfish weighing over 100 kg are extremely rare, however, cases of catching catfish more than 2.5 m long and weighing about 150 kg have been reported.
