The Airborne Troops (Airborne Forces) are a kind of armed forces force intended to cover the enemy by air and carry out tasks in its rear to disrupt command and control, capture and destroy ground elements of precision weapons, disrupt the deployment and deployment of reserves, disrupt the work of the rear and communications,as well as covering (defending) certain directions, areas, open flanks, blocking and destroying landed airborne assault forces, enemy groupings that have broken through and other tasks.Airborne forces are also often used as rapid reaction forces.The main method of airborne delivery is landing as a parachute,and landing method. Also units can be delivered by helicopters; during the Second World War, shipping on gliders was practiced.In different countries, airborne troops are called in different ways: air infantry, winged infantry, rapid reaction forces (troops), airborne troops, highly mobile landing troops,Commandos (British commandos) and others.They consist of a central body of military command (control, headquarters), formations, units, subunits and institutions (for example, in Russia: the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School).In peacetime,landing forces perform the basic tasks of maintaining combat and mobilization readiness at a level that ensures their successful use for the intended purpose.

The 2S9 NONA (Новейшее Орудие Наземной Артилерии – Newest Ordnance of Ground Artillery) is an extremely light-weight self-propelled and air-droppable 120 mm mortar designed in the Soviet Union that entered service in 1981. The 2S9 chassis is designated the S-120 and based on the aluminium hull of the BTR-D airborne multi-purpose tracked armoured personnel carrier. More generally, the 120 mm mortar is referred to as the Nona, with the 2S9 also known as the Nona-S; a BTR-80 based version is the 2S23 or Nona-SVK, and the towed 2B16 anti-tank gun version is named the Nona-K. Although no figures have been released, it is estimated that well over 1,000 2S9 were built.
