Flex tentacle tool holder 3D Print Model
Summary
This is a triplet of twisted tentacles that can hold a tool or something similar. It is made to be printed with flexible filament.
The tentacle base slips over the knob on the holder. The holder can be screwed to things like a magnetic base (as shown).
How I Designed This
The shape was made from a mathematical shape created with the Octave Isosurface function, and warped into something that looked good. I imported the resulting raw stl file into openscad where I added the mounting parts and the notation.
I started by playing with the fascinating “monkey saddle” (z=x*(x^2 – 3 y^2) ) which has three fold symmetry without trigonometry. I worked up an interesting shape in Mathematica, but transferred it to Octave, since it is open source. -

Jellyfish 3D
